She sacrificed her beauty pageant crown for civil rights

In a nutshell: Incredible story of the young woman who was stripped of her Miss Albany State College crown in 1961 because she participated in civil rights protests. An inspiring story for today’s youth and an important, little known chapter in the history of civil rights, education, and African-American women.
